Playdoh Volcano

Trying to figure out a fun and simple kid’s activity to do? Making a playdoh volcano is a surefire way to entertain your kiddo and it only requires a few simple ingredients. You can do this activity outside or inside, whichever you prefer. This is such an easy way to have fun while cooped up inside the house.

Playdoh Volcano Ingredients

Playdoh Volcano Instructions:

You will need-

-Baking Soda

-Distilled White Vinegar

-Playdoh (You can use homemade playdoh or use up playdoh that you have on hand)

-Cup to form your volcano around and to pour the baking soda and vinegar into

Start by molding your own volcano using playdoh. I just used some leftover playdoh that I found in our craft closet. Your playdoh will get wet and slimy from the volcano eruptions, so keep in mind that your playdoh will likely bite the dust after this experiment and need to be thrown away. So we ended up with a half white and half yellow volcano. I ended up just using the playdoh container as the vessel that would contain the baking soda and vinegar mixture.

I poured some baking soda into the bottom of the playdoh volcano and let Tovi take a look at it before adding the vinegar. At this point he had no idea what was going to happen but was intrigued none the less. :)

Then I poured in vinegar and Tovi raised his hands in excitement over the volcanic eruption. It was really hard to pour the vinegar and take a picture at the same time, so what you’re seeing via the picture is more towards the end of the eruption. But you get the idea. :)

He signed “more” and so I added more baking soda and did another eruption. We did quite a few and he got really excited each time when it would bubble up and fizz over the sides of the playdoh volcano. At the end of our fun activity he started touching the playdoh and it felt wet and slimy.

My good little helper cleaning up the vinegar and baking soda on the table. :)  The playdoh was pretty slimy and a bit hard to clean off the table, so next time I’ll probably put down a plastic table cloth or something that will make clean-up a little easier. All in all it was a fun and very simple activity to put together.
