With the beginning of fall there slowly becomes an ever-increasing chill in the air. Although I love fall and winter, the cold weather makes me want to stay snuggled in the comfort of my warm bed. A treat that can be enjoyed any time of the day is homemade hot chocolate. Something about the warmth it brings with each and every delicious chocolatey sip keeps you coming back for more.

I wanted hot chocolate but I didn’t have any store bought mixes at home…bummer! Then I thought, well it can’t be that hard to make my own. So I threw together this 3 step easy homemade hot chocolate recipe that is sure to please all chocolate lovers.

Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe

easy hot chocolate ingredients

Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • ½ Tablespoon Sugar
  • Teeny-tiny pinch of salt (very little salt. I like to add it for flavor.)
  • Milk (you will use however much it takes to almost fill up your coffee cup/mug.)

Let’s get started!

1. Pour milk into your mug of choice and heat for 1-2 minutes in the microwave on high. (Don’t fill up all the way because you will want to leave room to mix-in the “chocolate syrup” mixture.)

2. While milk is heating in the microwave mix together the remaining ingredients in another cup that has a very small amount of hot tap water in it. (The hot water will help combine all of the ingredients into a “chocolate syrup”.) Whisk all of the ingredients until you don’t see any cocoa powder lumps, adding a little bit more hot water at a time until you reach a smooth consistency.

3. Once milk is warmed to your liking, stir in the “chocolate syrup” mixture and you’ve got yourself the easiest and yummiest homemade hot chocolate!
